about

Following well received EPs from Myriadd and Q-Chip, Gnosis are ecstatic to have prolific UK producer Nigel Rogers (aka Ellis De Havilland, Operator Tracey, Orpheus, Pagan Ritual, Sir Leon Greg etc.) on board for their third release.

‘Drowning In Your Eyes’ is a four track EP recorded under his Perseus Traxx handle. A name he’s used for a mass of relentlessly creative output on Bunker, Chiwax, I Love Acid, M>O>S Recordings, Solar One Music, Barba Records and Hardmoon London to name but a few.

The record is built on same same foundation, and is another brick in the wall of the house that Jack built. Opening with the the acid romance of ‘Love From Afar’ with TB-303 bubbling like liquid mercury, and builds with skeletal congas, snares, hats and a yearning vintage Chicago style bassline. Energy and momentum increase with jackin’ claps, euphoric, gliding, celestial synth and morphing acid. It’s like falling in love with a stranger in deep space, if only for a moment, watching them float away, out of reach as they dissolve into the stars.

The crisp, glistening sound palette deployed on ‘Two Kinds of Love’ is reminiscent of the Detroit techno inspired ‘Artificial Intelligence’ era formative UK electronica of early productions from B12. Elevated by an equally profound and hallucinatory female spoken word vocal, that could almost be Aine of Knockaine, Celtic Goddess of love and fertility, or the manifestation of a phantom spirit guide.

On the flipside, the sublime ‘Drowning In Your Eyes’ is a psychedelic, deep house heart melter with fragile melodic chimes, mesmerising sun warped acid bassline, and emotive, silky layers draped on a framework of hypnotic, classic schooled drums.

The infectious, tropical, interstellar funk of ‘Unexpected Bliss’ closes the EP with soulful, jazzy keys and twinkling melodies – like a transmission of an ancient life form communicating through some arcane language from a distant planet.

These tracks are among the warmest, most lush and refined we’ve heard from Perseus Traxx, eschewing the raw edges of his earlier output for an immaculately produced record that should resonate with dancers and DJs well into the summer and beyond.
